Runner Moments

This morning I posted a picture on social media. One that took over a day to choose pictures for. I don’t participate in “Throwback Thursday” very often but I felt the urge today. I wanted to post a collage of “Runner Moments” for #TBT. As I scrolled through my phone and my Facebook albums I noticed I had countless to choose from. I have been very lucky since starting my Runner Journey in 2011 and I don’t take one moment or experience for granted. Thank you for those that I have met along the way.

I am very thankful for the memories and friendships made through running. It definetly gives back more than I ever expected. It’s not a chore, it’s a privilege. Keep it fun!

I am back!

Batteries recharged!
I had a great vacation. Went snorkeling, climbed Dunn’s River Falls in Jamaica, road a coaster in Haiti and much more. Ate, drank and indulged. I did go to the ships fitness center three times so I did get some miles in. I didn’t want my legs to go dormant lol! Hubby even came and worked out with me which was a first!!!

It has been quite hot out. Last night at 7pm it was 90 degrees with a 97 degree “feels like” temp.
It was time for my daughter to have her one hour out of her Scoliosis brace so I asked her if she wanted to go for a jog. It was the best 2 miles of my day! We even did a couple stop sign sprints and she blew right past me! I asked her if she would be interested in doing short distance track in High School. Her response: “but there’s no race bling” lol!! My little mini-me! I missed her while I was gone.

I am still not feeling my race mojo back 100% especially since my last race was a bust with the storm.
I must find something to sign up for in the next few weeks. It always helps to have a goal to keep you motivated and your training going strong.

“Run Fooooooorrest Run…..!!!”

Yesterday my daughter and I got up early and headed to New Orleans for the “15th Annual Run Forrest Run/Walk 5k” benefitting Children’s Hospital. This race has been on my list but I had not had the opportunity to do it. Finally this year would be my year! It would be extra special due to it would be my daughters last race before she gets her Scoliosis back brace on Wednesday. We parked at Jax Brewery on Decatur and walked to the packet pickup area/race start located in front of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company Restaurant. I didn’t even know they had a location in New Orleans so I was looking forward to checking it out after the race. Out front there was a very good Forrest Gump impersonator taking pictures with runners. He looked and sounded just like him. He introduced himself to me with the biggest smile and said “Hi, I am Forrest, Forrest Gump!” For me that was worth coming out to the race alone.

Look who it is!!! Even the Nike shoes!! love it!

Packet pickup was a breeze and the crowd of estimated 1500 runners quickly filled up for the 8:35am start of the 5k.

It was a warm 74 degrees and 87% humidity due to the rain coming by noon. Alaina took the race at a slower pace taking in the sights along the way while I gave it all I had for my 28:38 finish. I was expecting more people dressed up for this fun themed race but we had a great time plus the rain held out until after we got our post race beignets at Café Du Monde.

What’s your Motivation?

As my alarm went off at 4:10am this morning I thought “ok, What is going to get me out of this warm bed so I can go hit the treadmill for 3 miles before work?”
An upcoming summer trip came to my mind as well as the Half Marathon I have coming up in 18 days.
Then I thought “I can do this”. It’s just one extra hour early and this evening I can enjoy with my family. So up and out I went.

What gets you up and going?

Good Stuff Ahead

35th Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic 2013 to Benefit American Heart Association -New Orleans – 3-30-13
It’s been since 2011 I have ran this race so I am quite excited to get to run it this year plus there is a new sponsor, improved course and runner corrals. This is really shaping up to be quite an event this year. In fact, I was not planning on even attending the Expo but when I heard Bart Yasso – Chief Running Officer, Runner’s World will be in attendance speaking on “How to be a better runner” I was sold. How fortunate this will be on Good Friday when I am off work that day! (whew). I mentioned to a friend that I MUST get my picture taken with Bart Yasso! We are Twitter buddies so we go way back right ??!! LOL! I wish I could get there early enough on Friday to attend his “Shake Out” run but I keep telling myself I can’t do everything. Good friends, 12k+ runners, great course (going down Poydras, through the French Quarter, passing Jackson Square, turning left on Esplanade Avenue and continuing to City Park) How could it get better?? Well I’ll tell you how.. My 13 year old daughter has stepped in for a friend that had to drop out. so Crescent City graciously transferred her entry at no charge so she will be running her 1st 10k!!!! Well I say run it will be more like a walk/jog but I told her “A Finish is a Finish” and there will be a Finisher medal waiting for her!! Considering she has not gone farther than a 5k this is HUGE for her.. She told me earlier in the year she wanted to start training for a 10k. This one was a bit sooner than expected but she is looking forward to it.

This will definitely be an EPIC weekend!!!

I recognized several of my Facebook/Twitter runDisney friends who made the cut onto the videos.
Dennis (Mr. runDisney TV) was quite nice in person.
I hope to go back one day for another runDisney race.
